It was a big week at Big Goals HQ this week. (And last week, preparing for it, if I’m honest).
I’ve just wrapped up a free webinar series called: Under the Surface: What Really Makes Team Work. (If you would like access to the recordings, email me at juliet@biggoals.com.au I’ll send them directly to you).
This work came out of a couple of years of quite intense leaders and team work — where I was reminded of the powerful effect of having a facilitator hold space for your team to find their groove.
What I see is that a lot of the conversations in the leadership space focus on big, flashy stuff: Vision. Mission. Values. Culture. Innovation. Your Why, etc.
And those are important – my own work is very much about helping with all of them.
But what I’ve seen time and time again is that these big conversations fall flat IF the soil they fall on is dry.
Any change, any shift that you want to see in your team needs fertile ground for ideas to take root and thrive.
It’s that fertile soil that I covered in the three sessions:
- A shared language so clear conversations support the pursuit of everything else, from culture to performance and more.
- Aligned priorities so your team moves in the same direction without silos and resource competition. Decisions feel easier and progress is more accessible for everyone.
- Collective responsibility and shared accountability so there is a clear sense of ownership amongst the team.
Each one supports the other – like Lego blocks. Together they form the solid foundation to everything else you’re trying to build.
➢ You want conflict and tensions to make room for fruitful collaboration? Create a shared language.
➢ You want to innovate more and faster? Align your priorities.
➢ You want more ease and joy and better results? Shared accountability will get you there.
Focusing on these three shifts will have a ripple effect on everything else in your team. Whatever new unexpected challenges you face, this foundation will hold. I’ve seen it and helped create it so many times.
And while yes — some leaders do make these shifts on their own (and I have resources to help you with that) — the outcomes often look and feel different. That’s not about your skills or commitment. It’s just the reality of what can unfold when there’s a dedicated facilitator in the room or as your immediate sounding board, someone who can hold the space, spot the patterns, and help the team engage in ways they usually can’t on their own.
And it’s not just about speed either. It’s about depth, safety, and the kind of shared clarity that’s hard to access from the inside of day to day.
If you’re a leader who can see that your team needs support, and you need support, my Leaders and Teams Coaching Programme is a comprehensive way to get there, faster, with help.
All good things,
