Over the past few weeks, I’ve been running workshops with teams all over Australia and I’ve had more than one person come up and say to me:
‘We just can’t have these conversations normally – you made it safe for us to do so.’
The Springtime Benefits of Facing Conversations Head-On
I know first hand what it does to a team when they can address issues and ‘shake them about in the sunshine’. When we can talk about what’s going on we create an opportunity for a fresh start, with a new understanding of each other, of the work we do and of our shared goals.
You know how that feels too, I know you do.
It’s fuel.
It’s a spring in your step.
The Benefits of Facing Workplace Conversations Head-On
It’s being able to be completely present with your family at dinner because work doesn’t take up your mental capacity. Work actually gives you energy.
That’s what the not-so-magic-magic of having difficult conversations can do for you and your team.
The more we avoid difficult conversations, even the ones that seem too *small* to make a fuss/upset the apple cart about, the more the health of our team is impacted, the more how we work together staggers, the more our own energy and bandwidth falters.
Two simple ways you can face difficult conversations and experience spring-like renewal in your team:
- Prepare and lead difficult conversations to reduce their mental impact on you with some simple prep. Even just writing down what outcome you want from the conversation can make a huge difference. Interrupt the avoidance and take the lead.
- Access this resource to have better, more productive, more truthful conversations with your team.
I wish you a week of incredibly productive – if difficult – conversations.
All good things,
