How to Spot a Toxic Employee Before It’s Too Late

The Moment You Realise You Hired a Toxic Employee

OMG! That’s the guy I hired!

A client had this realisation during one of my workshops, as I was describing how you can spot a toxic person at work.

Signs of a Toxic Workplace Culture You Might Be Overlooking

All of a sudden, she could see it clearly—how the environment made it easy for this person to be toxic:

  • People didn’t feel like they could raise things without fear of consequences
  • The manager herself was not being vulnerable
  • She wasn’t asking for the team’s help to solve problems
  • Unintentionally allowing toxic behaviour—who has the time to nip every toxic action in the bud?

That’s how we’re enabling someone toxic our team.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but not necessarily very useful, FINAL. So, let’s do something about it today.

Are there ways you could create a safer psychological work environment, one where a toxic person simply could not thrive?

Let me know what comes to mind for you.
